羅斯冰架（英语：Ross Ice Shelf）是世界上最大的冰架，位於南極洲的愛德華七世半島和羅斯島之間，東西長約800公里，南北最宽約為970公里，冰架靠海邊緣高60米，接近陸地的邊緣，最厚有750米，冰架面積約52萬平方公里，差不多等於一個法國那麼大，四周冰壁陡峭。


理查·伯德（Richard Byrd）的著名冒險日誌《獨自一人》（Alone）的背景環境，就是羅斯冰棚。



冰架的發現


1841年，英國海軍探險隊乘坐兩艘三桅木船，穿過通南極洲的太平洋看冰區，企圖確定地球南磁極的位置，4天後，他們駛出浮冰區，以為前邊暢通無阻，不料，他們遇見一堵巨大的冰壁，擋著了去路，探險隊長羅斯爵士驚呼道：“要穿過這道冰壁犹如穿越多佛懸崖，絕無可能”這座冰架後來就以他的姓氏命名。
