I just want to know is it possible to put gridlines and border with coordinates (lat, lon) in an image in a standalone pyqgis script.

I have checked almost all cookbooks about python ang qgis and they all use iface. And as far as I know I can't use iface in a stand alone script.

If this is not possible can anyone suggest an alternative? I have seen that it may be possible to load a template (.qgs) that will contain the grid into python but I can't find any guide that is compatible with qgis 2.18

I am using python 2.7 and qgis 2.18.
