Bonifacius VIII, nomine nativo "Benedictus Caetani" (Anagniae Latii natus anno circiter 1230; mortuus die 11 Octobris 1303) fuit episcopus Romanus, papa scilicet, a die 24 Decembris 1294. Patruus progenitoris eius Gelasius II fuit.
Benedictus Caetani iuri studuit Tudere et apud universitatem Bononiensem. Anno 1287 Cardinalis creatus est.
Cum bulla Antiquorum habet fidem die 22 Februarii 1300 Bonifacius VIII primum Iobeleum Ecclesiae Catholicae promulgavit, 9 Decembris 1301 Philippum IV regem Franciae Romam in concilium bulla Ausculta fili quasi in ius vocavit propter vectigalia sacerdotibus exacta. Rex tum primum ordines generales regni convocavit. Die 18 Novembris 1302 Bullam celebrem Unam sanctam ecclesiam propagavit, quo omnes homines ecclesiae subiectae esse debere declaravit. Die 20 Aprilis 1303 cum bulla "In supremae praeminentia dignitatis" Romae universitatem dictam "Studium Urbis" (Italiane La Sapienza) condidit.
Medicus apud Bonifacium VIII meruit Arnaldus de Villa Nova.
