I created a 3D raster using V.VOl.RST with GRass GIS, and i noticed that using r3.mapcalc, we cannot include 2D raster. I would like to keep the portion of the 3D raster that is between a DEM (top surface) and the top of Bedrock (bottom surface). I am able to do this using a 2D raster for each slice of elevation and keeping the portions of the raster that are between the DEM and bedrock but no with a 3D raster. I am looking at using r3.torast to export the 3d raster in over 200 layers and running the mask for each layer but that is time consuming.
